Today you will drive through Waterford’s beautiful countryside for an exclusive visit to Curraghmore House, home of the 9th Marquis of Waterford. The house is a remarkable sight with architecture from both the 12th century and the 18th century and strong French influences. Unlike other grand houses of this period, the Le Poer family’s keep from 1176 has been incorporated into the 18th-century house.

One of the most interesting and striking features of the Curraghmore is the front courtyard, where the original castle is encased in a spectacular Victorian mansion flanked by Georgian ranges. The formal parterre, tiered lawns, lake, arboretum and kitchen gardens were all developed during the 19th century and survive into today. Some of Ireland’s most remarkable living trees were planted in the estate’s arboretum when it was first developed. Today these trees line miles of beautiful river walks. One of the tallest tress in Ireland, a Sitka spruce, overlooks King John’s Bridge. An arched stone structure built in 1205 and spanning the Clodagh River, King John’s Bridge is the oldest bridge in Ireland. Twelve miles of famine relief boundary walls and four sturdy wrought iron gates surround the estate.

Your guided tour will go through the main reception rooms in Curraghmore House and parts of the extensive gardens. It will also include tea or coffee and scones in the Tea Rooms.
