Growing Cacao 

This four-hour tour takes you to the Indigenous Ngäbe community to learn how they produce the famous “Criollo” cacao beans, which are sought after by chocolatiers around the world. 

You’ll learn step by step how this resilient community plants the cacao trees, harvests, roasts and grinds the beans, and then produces delicious traditional chocolate.

Practical information

  • Included: One bottle of water 

  • Remarks/requirements: Please wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are recommended. 

  • Walking or Activity information: Involves moderate physical activity on relatively level surfaces and gentle terrain. There is approximately 0.12 miles of walking at the plantation. 

  • Wheelchair accessible: No
